Where to look for Fossils at Spittal Quarry?

(Collecting on the foreshore)
(Look on the Spoil Heaps) - 2003

Spittal Quarry is extremely large and it is easy to try and cover most of the quarry and miss something by rushing. The best area to look is from on the spoil heaps, but please do not climb the heaps since they can be very dangerous, instead look around the base. At the far end of the quarry, the layers are stepped and since fish can only be found in a certain layer, this gives a good opportunity to see both the geology as it was laid and to look for fossils.
